Ring Making Workshops in Hartlepool & North Yorkshire – What to Expect
If you’ve been thinking about booking one of my ring making workshops in Hartlepool or North Yorkshire but you’re not quite sure what to expect, this post is for you! I thought I’d share a little more about how the session works, what you’ll learn, and what you’ll go home with – so you can book your place with confidence.
Whether you’re coming on your own, with a friend, or as part of a special celebration, my jewellery making workshops are designed to be relaxed, welcoming and beginner-friendly.
After You Book Your Workshop
Once you’ve booked onto the workshop, you’ll receive a confirmation email with your order number.
Closer to the workshop date, I’ll send a follow-up email with everything you need to know, including:
- The workshop date and time
- Location details
- Parking information
- What to wear
- What to expect on the day
This way you’ll arrive feeling prepared and ready to start making!
Just to note, if you're buying the workshop as a gift, let me know the person's email address closer to the time & I can message them this directly.
What to Wear to a Jewellery Making Workshop
The short answer? Come as you are.
Jewellery making can get a little messy, so I recommend wearing something comfortable that you don’t mind getting slightly dirty. I provide aprons if you’d like to wear one.
For safety reasons, I also ask that:
- Long hair is tied back (we will be using blow torches!)
- You wear closed-toe shoes – tools can occasionally get dropped, and closed shoes help protect your feet
Safety is always my priority, but don’t worry — everything will be clearly explained before we begin and during the session!
What Happens When You Arrive
When everyone arrives, you’ll be welcomed with a cup of tea or coffee to help you settle in.
Before we start, I’ll give a quick health and safety briefing, covering things like:
- Fire exits
- Where the toilets are
- Basic workshop safety
Once that’s done, we’re ready to start making your ring.
Guided Ring Making – Step by Step
Throughout the workshop, I’ll guide you through every stage of the ring making process.
I demonstrate each step first so you can see exactly what to do — and usually I demonstrate twice, because sometimes things happen quickly and it’s easy to miss something!
I’m there the whole time to support you, answer questions and help if needed. But the important thing is:
You will make the ring yourself.
I won’t take over and do it for you — because part of the magic is leaving with something you created with your own hands.

The Ring Making Process
During the workshop you’ll learn several traditional silversmithing techniques, including:
Measuring your finger
We’ll use professional ring sizers to find your perfect size and talk about how a ring should properly fit.
Calculating the wire length
We’ll work out how much silver wire is needed to create your ring.
Cutting the silver wire
You’ll learn how to use a jeweller’s piercing saw to cut the wire.
Filing and refining
Using needle files, you’ll smooth the ends of the wire ready for joining.
Shaping the ring
The wire is bent around a mandrel (also known as a triblet) to form the ring shape.
Soldering
Using a jeweller’s blow torch, we solder the ring closed to create a continuous band - This is the part that most people are scared about but it's the part that most people really enjoy! Don't worry, I will literally be sat with you!
Sanding and finishing
We remove any fire scale and excess solder for a clean, professional finish.
Texturing
This is where the magic happens — you’ll add a beautiful hammered texture to your ring.
Polishing
Finally, we polish your ring to bring out a lovely shine.
Leave With Your Own Handmade Ring
At the end of the workshop, you’ll leave with a finished sterling silver ring that you made yourself.
Your ring will be packaged a beautiful gift bad with:
- A ring box
- A cleaning cloth
- A care card
So whether it’s a gift or a treat for yourself, it’s ready to take home and enjoy!
